If you want to learn Khmer, Cantonese, Tagalog, or other less popular languages, unfortunately, you cannot learn with either LingoDeer or Duolingo. So, if you want to learn a language that LingoDeer doesn’t offer, Duolingo is clearly the better choice. For example, Hungarian, Navajo, and Finnish are currently being developed. Also, Duolingo is constantly adding new language courses. On Duolingo, you can also learn Esperanto, Klingon, and High Valyrian, which are not technically real languages. On Duolingo, you can learn all of the languages listed above, plus: For starters, Duolingo has a much larger selection of languages you can learn. In this category, I think Duolingo is better. Maybe the others have somethinge else to say? :) Even if you dont know some of the words on easiest take this chance to learn them and add them to your own personal anki deck. Since your a beginner start on easiest then work your way up. Click sentice practice then choose your settings. You probably wont need this for a while, but it still might be useful in some ways. After you complete what this app has to offer you can use the Chinese Grammar Wiki and a Vocabulary learning program to study the other hsk levels. This app will get you to about a hsk1 level. I didn't start with a textbook however (too classroom based for me). There are many, but some of the most recommended textbooks for Mandarin are Integrated Chinese and NPCR - choose your fancy.
